| Original text | Το απόγευμα (της 23ης Απριλίου, του Αγίου Γεωργίου, που γιορτάζει η εκκλησία του χωριού) πάλι χόρευαν, πιο επίσημα, στο χοροστάσι. Εδώ εχόρευαν οι αρραβωνιασμένοι, τα παλληκάρια, οι κοπέλλες κι επλήρωναν για τους πρώτους και οι γονείς και οι φίλοι στα όργανα. Τον πρώτο έπρεπε να τον χορέψη ή η αρραβωνιαστικιά του, ή αδελφή του, ή συγγενής και φίλος. Μη συγγενής απαγορευόταν να τον πιάση από το χέρι. Αν γινόταν τέτοιο πράγμα, τούτο ήτο παρεξηγήσιμο και ύποπτο. Εδειχνε έρωτα μαζί του. Δεν θα είχε τόπο πού να σταθή μεσ' στο χωριό. Παλιότερα δεν πιάνονταν ούτε από το χέρι. Είχαν τα μαντήλια, αφ' ενός να μη ακουμπούν τα χέρια, αφ' ετέρου να μπορούν να στριφογυρίζουν και να κάμνουν τα "κατσιαμάκια" των στο χορό. Πολλές φορές έβγαζαν οι νέοι και τα παπούτσια των και χόρευαν μόνο με τις κάλτσες για να είναι ευκίνητοι. Κάλτσες θά 'φκιανε κι άλλες το κορίτσι. |
| English translation | In the evening (April 23, when the village church is celebrating St. George’s Day) they were dancing again in the chorostas. Here, the engaged couple was dancing, here also the unmarried men and women were dancing and paying the first couple, while the parents and the friends paid for the instruments. The first one had to be danced by his fiancée, or his sister, relative or friend. People non-related to him were forbidden from taking him by his hand. If something like that occurred, it was considered an offence and impropriety. It revealed a love bond between them. There would be no place for such a person in the village. In the old times people were not even touching their hands. They had the kerchiefs in order to not touch somebody else’s hand, but also, to be able to turn and spin around and do “sit-ups” during the dance. Often, the young people were taking off their shoes and were dancing only in their socks in order to be more mobile. The socks were made by the girl. |
