| Original text | Βάτικα και Χαβουτσί Προποντίδας, Τσάκωνες: Οταν ένα παλικάρι, τιμώντας ή ενδιαφερόμενο για κάποιο κορίτσι, ήθελε να το χορέψει, του έριχνε πάνω στο χέρι το μαντίλι του, αν το κορίτσι παρακολουθούσε ή μετείχε στο χορό. "Ρίβε νι το μαντίλι", της έριξε το μαντίλι, έλεγαν οι άλλοι, και περίμεναν την απάντηση του κοριτσιού. Οι γυναίκες χόρευαν πιασμένες χωρίς μαντήλια συνήθως, οι άντρες όμως έπρεπε να έχουν μαντίλι για να χορέψουν με τις γυναίκες, αν δεν ήταν στενοί συγγενείς. |
| English translation | When a lad, out of respect and interest in a girl, wanted to dance, he was throwing a kerchief on her hand and waiting to see if the girl was just observing him or participated in the dance. “He threw her a kerchief”, everybody would say and await the reply of the girl. The women usually danced without holding a kerchief; the men however had to use a kerchief in order to dance with women, if they were not very close relatives. |
