| Original text | Ο έτερος χορός, όστις φαίνεται ομοιάζων προς τινα παιδιάν, καλείται Νικηντρές. Κατ' αυτόν πιάνουν με μαντήλι, όπως 'ς τον Συρτόν, και βήματα όπως του Συρτού. Τραγουδούν και λένε "Νικηντρέ, Νικηντρέ, γεια σου Γιάννη Κουτεντέ", λένε τα ονόματα ενός ενός με την σειρά "Γεια σου Γιώργη Κουτεντέ" κτλ. Αυτός λέει "Θα περάσω, θα περάσω, και το στοίχημα θα χάσω" και περνά το μαντήλι κάτω από τα πόδια του και εξακολουθεί να το κρατή και οι άλλοι πάλι εξακολουθούν και χορεύουν. Το αυτό γίνεται και με τον δεύτερον, τον τρίτον, τον τέταρτον, όλους. Ο τελευταίος δεν έχει άλλο να περάση και περνά ανάποδα, περνά τον πισινόν του εις τον άλλον. Κάποιος επίσης πιάνει το λουρί και χτυπά τους δύο τελευταίους και κρατούνε χέρια πολλές φορές αντί των μαντηλιών, που δεν είναι γερά, για να μη φύγουνε. Σχηματίζουνε μια αλυσίδα, σα ένα σκοινί με μανταλάκια. Το παίζει και η τζαμπούνα και τραγουδιέται κιόλας. |
| English translation | The next dance, which looks similar to a children’s play, is called Nikintres. They hold each other by the kerchief, like in Syrtos, and the steps are like in Syrtos. They sing and say “Nikintre, Nikintre, hello, Gianni Koutente”; then they give subsequent names in a row: “Hello Giorgi Koutente”, etc. He then says “I shall pass, I shall pass, and shall lose my bet”, and he moves the kerchief under his legs, and keeps on holding it, while the others continue to dance. The same procedure is repeated with the second, the third, the fourth person, all of them. The last one does not have anyone to pass it on to so he passes it in the opposite direction, with his back to the others. Then somebody grabs the strap and he beats the two dancers at the end. Instead of using kerchiefs, which are not strong enough, they often hold each other by their hands, so that the dancers cannot run away. They form a chain, like a rope with clothespins. The song is played on the bagpipes and also sung. |
