| Original text | Οταν θα σηκωθούν από το γαμήλιον τραπέζι θα τραγουδήσουν όλοι μαζί το πρώτον χορευτικόν άσμα, το οποίον απαραιτήτως είναι το "Φούστα μου μπαρμπαρέζικη, σιδεραρματωμένη, οπού σε αρματώσανε δώδεκα παλληκάρια...". Το άσμα τούτο χορεύεται με Σταυρωτόν χορόν εις τον εγγύτερον προς την τράπεζαν χώρον, με κορυφαίους τον μάγειρον (ή πρωτομάγειρον) και την νύμφην, χωρίς να λαμβάνη μέρος ο γαμβρός. Εις τον μάγειρον έχουν δώσει ένα μαντήλι χρωματιστό γεμάτο κουφέτα, καρύδια, αμύγδαλα, κι αυτό το κρατούν από τις δύο άκρες του, μαζί με τη νύφη. Ακολουθούν οι άλλοι προσκεκλημένοι και συγγενείς, ιδία γυναίκες και κορίτσια, μέσα δε εις τον κύκλον του χορού έχουν συγκεντρωθεί τα μικρά παιδιά, τα οποία επίσης χορεύουν, πιασμένα από την ποδιάν ή τα μαντήλια της νύφης. Ο μάγειρος συνεχίζει τον χορόν μέχρι του τελευταίου στίχου "Πίνοντας τα γλυκά κρασιά κτλ.", οπότε σκορπίζει τα κουφέτα εις το πλήθος των παιδιών και καθώς εκείνα ορμούν να τα συλλέξουν, ο χορός παύει μέσα εις τον θόρυβον και τας ευχάς. |
| English translation | When they would stand from the wedding table, they would all together sing the first dancing hymn. A suitable song for this role is “My Maghrebian dress, embroidered with wire, you were armoured by twelve lads…” This hymn is danced with the Staurotos [crisscross dance] and is the closest dance to the table, with its leader a cook (or the chef) and the bride, without the attendance of the groom. The cook is being given a colourful kerchief full of sugared almonds, walnuts, almonds and they both hold it by its corners. Other guests and family members accompany them, especially women and girls, and inside the dancing circle the children gather, also dancing while holding the apron or the kerchief of the bride. The cook continues the dance until the last words “Drinking the sweet wines”, and then he throws the sugared almonds towards the children, and while they rush to pick them up, the dance stops and transforms into a noise and wishes. |
