| Original text | Ο Πουτάνικος ή Ποτηράκια ήταν μιμικός χορός, εκτελούμενος από άντρες που παρίσταναν τις γυναίκες: Κρατούσαν στα χέρια μικρά ποτηράκια που τα χτυπούσαν μεταξύ τους, ενώ η ορχήστρα συνόδευε μονάχα με το βιολί, το σαντούρι και το μπάσο, για να μη χάνεται ο ήχος των ποτηριών. Φαίνεται ότι ο χορός αυτός ήρθε στη Λέσβο από τους στρατιώτες που είχαν πάει στη Μικρασία το 1922 και στην πραγματικότητα δεν είναι παρά μίμηση του χορού της κοιλιάς, όπως χορευόταν στα καφέ-σαντάν της Σμύρνης και της Πόλης. |
| English translation | Poutanikos or Potirakia was a mimetic dance, danced by men who were representing women: in their hands they were holding small glasses and knocking them between themselves, while the orchestra was following only with the violin, the santouri and the base, so that the sound of glasses would not be lost. It seems that this dance came from Lesbos, from the soldiers who went to Asia Minor in 1922 and in reality it is just a imitation of the belly dance, as it was danced in the cafe-santan [from French: café chantant] of Smyrna and Constantinople. |
