| Original text | Ο κωμικός χορός Νικολής χορεύεται από έναν άνδρα βρακά, χωρατατζή και χιουμορίστα. Στο πίσω μέρος της βράκας του προσδένει μια χάρτινη ουρά και βγαίνει στο χορό προκαλώντας τους παρευρισκομένους να του την ανάψουν αν μπορούν. Εν τω μεταξύ αυτός κουνάει τον πισινόν του δεξιά και αριστερά και δεν δίνει την ευκαιρία να του ανάψουν την ουρά. Στο τέλος κάποιος προσποιείται ότι θέλει να του μιλήσει μυστικά στ' αυτί, τον αγκαλιάζει, τον ακινητοποιεί και βρίσκουν οι άλλοι την ευκαιρία ν' ανάψουν την ουρά. Μόλις ο Νικολής αντιλαμβάνεται την παγίδα, φωνάζει "φωτιά! φωτιά!" και τρέχοντας εγκαταλείπει την σκηνή προς μεγάλη χαρά των παρευρισκομένων. |
| English translation | The comical Nikolis is danced by a man in breeches, a humorous jester. On the back side of his breeches he ties a paper tail and goes off to dance, inviting the bystanders to try and set it on fire, if they can. In the meantime, he shakes his butt right and left, and does not give them a chance to light it up. By the end, somebody pretends to want to talk to him on the side, whisper to his ear; he hugs him, immobilizes him, and all the others seize the opportunity to set the tail on fire. After Nikolis understands the trap he is in, he shouts: “fire! fire!” and leaves the scene running, to the delight of the entire gathering. |
