| Original text | Ο χορός του "μαχαιριού" (εις 2/4), ο οποίος χορεύεται και εις τον Πόντον και την Μακεδονίαν, είναι ατομικός. Κατ' αυτόν γίνεται επίδειξις της χορευτικής δεξιοτεχνίας του χορευτού, ο οποίος χορεύων κάμνει διαφόρους ελιγμούς με το μαχαίρι. Κατά την εκτέλεσιν του χορού τούτου ο χορευτής εις ωρισμένην μορφήν κινήσεως καρφώνει το μαχαίρι εις την γην και προσπαθεί, κάμπτων το σώμα, να το συλλάβη με το στόμα του δίχως τα χέρια του να εγγίζουν το έδαφος. Την στιγμήν αυτήν ο ρυθμός της μουσικής μεταβάλλεται εις 5/8, γίνεται ελαστικός, σχεδόν ελεύθερος. Μόλις δε ο χορευτής κατορθώση να συλλάβη με το στόμα του το "μαχ'αίρι" η μουσική επαναφέρεται εις τον αρχικόν της ρυθμόν. |
| English translation | The dance of the “knife” (in 2/4), which is also danced in Pontus and Macedonia, is an individual dance. It demonstrates the virtuosity of the dancer, who makes various maneuvers with the knife. While dancing, the performer, using specific movements, is stabbing the knife into the earth and tries, using his body, to grab the knife with his mouth without touching the ground with his hands. At this moment, the rhythm of the music changes to 5/8, becomes more flexible, nearly free. Just after the dancer manages to grab the “knife” with his mouth, the music returns to its initial rhythm. |
