| Original text | Οταν τελειώνει ο θερισμός, οι θεριστές αρχίζουν να θερίζουν με βίαιες κινήσεις, γιατί, όπως λένε, προσπαθούν να πιάσουν το λαγό που κρύβεται στα στάχυα. Αντί όμως για λαγό πιάνουν τον ιδιοκτήτη του χωραφιού, τον βάζουν πάνω σε μια θημωνιά και προσποιούνται ότι τον σκοτώνουν. Στο τέλος αντί του ιδιοκτήτη σφάζουν μια κότα, που προσφέρει αυτός για αντάλλαγμα της ελευθερίας του, και ο πρώτος χορευτής "παίζει το δρεπάνι", δηλαδή εκτελεί έναν μιμητικό χορό με τον ιδιοκτήτη. |
| English translation | When harvesting was over, the workers used to harvest very violently in order to catch the rabbit as they used to say. But instead of the rabbit they used to catch the owner of the field, put him on a mass of harvested brooms and pretend to kill him. Instead of him they used to kill a chicken he offered in exchange of his life. The first dancer used to execute a dance imitating the owner (play the scythe). |
