| Original text | Κύπρος: Μέχρι το πρώτον τέταρτον του τρέχοντος αιώνος εις τον Συρτόν, καθώς και εις τον Καρροτσέρην, εχόρευον δύο, εκ των οποίων ο δεύτερος εκράτει το μανδήλι εις το οποίον εκρατείτο ο χορευτής διά να κινείται ευκόλως εις την εκτέλεσιν των διαφόρων κινήσεων του χορού. Υπήρχεν όμως και ο Αρμα Χορός, εις τον οποίον ελάμβανον μέρος πολλοί, εκ των οποίων οι δύο πρώτοι εχόρευον όπως εις τον Συρτόν, οι δε άλλοι έκαμναν κινήσεις κατά βούλησιν. |
| English translation | Until the first quarter of the 20th century, Syrtos and Karrotseris were being danced by a male pair, in which the second person would hold the kerchief in order to be able to move easily while performing various moves of the dance. However, there was also the Arma dance, which would engage many people, and in which the first two men would dance as in Syrtos, and the others would move according to their own will. |
